100th Anniversary International Yiddish Language Conference
August 18-22, 2008

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Center for Studies of the History and Culture of East European Jews at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Maimonides State Classical Academy (Moscow), and Fedkovych Chernivtsi State University are pleased to announce the 100th Anniversary International Yiddish Language Conference which will take place in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. The conference is sponsored by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Beit Shalom Aleichem (Tel Aviv), and Chernivtsi Municipality. It will be held at the same venues as the historical 1908 First Yiddish Language Conference (The Chernivtsi Philharmonic Society Hall (former Musikverein) and Ukrainian National House) as well as at the Chernivtsi Municipal Palace of Culture (former Juedisches Nationalhaus). This event is also connected with the festivities of the 600th anniversary of Chernivtsi and the opening of the Jewish Museum in the city. Working languages at the conference: Yiddish, English, Ukrainian, and Russian.

The conference will begin on Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Blue and Marble Halls of the Chernivtsi State University (former Residenz) by the festive opening and reception in the presence of the governor of Bukovyna and the mayor of Chernivtsi

The keynote event will feature Professor Joshua (Shikl) Fishman. Professor Fishman will present a talk entitled "The 100-th Anniversary of the Czernowitz Language Conference. To What it Obliges Us" which will follow by the Oath of 2008 in Honor and in Memory of Czernowitz 1908
